The Invasion of the Pirates was started in 2005 by the Wilmington Harbor Enhancement Trust in an effort to put more "river" into the annual Riverfest celebration. The Third Annual Invasion of the Pirates took place on the Cape Fear River in Downtown Wilmington, NC on Saturday, October 6, 2007.

Three events were staged:

An after dark Flotilla with lighted boats decorated with costumed pirates on board:  The parade of pirate ships invaded Wilmington and fireworks marked the success of their Invasion!
A Treasure Hunt for families of young children up to age 14.
A Pirate Costume Contest for Children on Sat., Oct 6 Wonderful prizes from the Children's Museum, Carvel Ice Cream and the Wilmington Sea Dawgs were awarded to the winners!
